Anna Wintour Is Taking Her Influence To Politics
Move over Sarah Palin. Anna Wintour, the Editor In Chief of Vogue, is moving into politics and she has much better taste than you. She is already one of the biggest fund-raisers for the Obama Administration, She brought in more than $500,000 as of July. And now according to Styleite, Anna has put together a group called Runway to Win to help President Barack Obama’s reelection campaign. She has also recruited quite the team to help. Vogue has helped round up 22 designers — including Marc Jacobs, Diane von Furstenberg, Alexander Wang, Jason Wu, and Rachel Roy — to design items to benefit the Obama Victory Fund. Wintour will also host a Runway to Win fundraising event in February, which may coincide with Fashion Week. If that isn’t excellent cross promotion, I don’t know what is.
Though Anna doesn’t think she is that powerful a person, she obviously has a lot of influence. As the editor of Vogue, the world’s fashion bible, she is the dictator of the fashion industry and her opinion is respected to an extreme degree. She is known to be able to make or break a designer’s career within one sharp look. Obama should be so lucky. It should be noted that executives and employees of fashion brands contributed nearly twice as much money to Obama’s campaign as they did to John McCain’s campaign during the 2008 presidential election.
