11 Great Career Moments For Women In 2011

Taken from here.

“This is what I tell young women who ask me for career advice. People are going to try to trick you. To make you feel that you are in competition with one another. “You’re up for a promotion. If they go for a woman, it’ll be between you and Barbara.” Don’t be fooled. You’re not in competition with other women. You’re in competition with everyone.”

Tina Fey, Bossypants

It has been a year of ups and downs for women in the professional world. We have made some real strides (women in Saudi Arabia got the vote, Virginia Rometty is now head of IBM) but we are still fighting against quotas and 2011 was not a great year for women in terms of progress in corporate leadership at the largest companies in the United States. Women have made no significant gains in the last year and are no further along the corporate ladder than they were six years ago. Women held 16.1% of board seats in 2011, compared to 15.7% in 2010. Less than one-fifth of companies had 25% or more women board directors. About one in ten companies had no women serving on their boards. But enough negativity. Instead, let’s celebrate the great moments and progress of women in their careers.
