In a righteous display of outrage against the regime, and its brutality against female protestors, Yemeni women burned their veils. That's right. Burned them. The country's women's issues came to light for the first time in 2008, when a 10-year-old girl named Nujood Ali succeeded in obtaining her right to divorce due to constant rape by her husband of his mid-30s and abuse by her in-laws. Ali and her lawyer, Shada Nasser, received acclaim by prominent women around the world and were named "Women of the Year" by Glamour Magazine
