Madonna’s Fashion Line Has Landed Her In Court

Taken from here.

Madonna needs a ray of light right now. Madge is heading to court after being hit with a lawsuit by California clothing brand L.A. Triumph Inc. for the name of her “Material Girl” clothing line. In the suit, filed a year ago, L.A. Triumph claimed it has been selling a clothing line called “Material Girl” since 1997. According to The Huffington Post, L.A. Triumph holds trademark rights stemming from first use. Except, as Madonna pointed out, the term “Material Girl” didn’t really exist until she coined the it in her 1984 song of the same name. But apparently that was not enough of an argument for the suit to be thrown out.
The Material Girl line, Madonna’s that is, has been going strong since it debuted in 2010. In July, Madonna announced she would be expanding the label to include beauty products like nail polishes, body sprays, intimates, sleepwear. Madonna runs the line with her teenage daughter Lola.
Perhaps she could rename the clothing line “Vogue” or “Like A Virgin?”
