Good At Life: Add Fruit To Your Salsa

Taken from here.

Pineapple salsa and mango-chipotle dip have gone from fusion restaurants to mainstream grocery shelves, but you can make them yourself for less money (and far less added sugars). Think it’s going to take you forever to make your own salsa? Well, here’s our Good At Life secret: Buy jarred salsa and add some chopped fresh fruit before you serve it for a healthy, gourmet dip.
The problem with many pre-made salsas that include fruit is that they use peaches, mangos and pineapple that’s been cooked in a light syrup–which means added sugar beyond just the sweetness of the fruit. You don’t need it for taste, and you certainly don’t need the extra sugar (save your daily recommended serving of six teaspoons for something worthwhile, like chocolate, if you’re going to have them). Plus, adding your own chopped fruit will stretch out jar of salsa, which ends up being cheaper than buying a small specialty bottle, no matter how you cut it.
