Breathe In, Breathe Out, Blah, Blah, Duh!

Isn’t it cool to feel your sweaty cheek (either location applicable) kiss the ground “coming out” of your choice of arm balance or inversion? Yoga is humbling. Like when you lose something that you take for granted, or when you hurt, see others hurt. Lose your breath? Talk about humbling. Inhale, exhale, breathe. Remember to breathe. How many times have you heard that in a yoga class? Or any other workout for that matter? Tired of it, maybe. Still sometimes I do forget. Well maybe not forget to breathe, but definitely forget to FEEL the breath. Forget to activate in the flow. Forget to stayin that breath.
Lets think for a moment, what is a breath? Life force right? And if life force is this air that circulates throughout our bodies moving constantly, it’s fleeting, yes? Life is going, changing, moving, hence the breath does too. I can find someone that makes me feel alive and it changes: the breath. Find a pose that challenges my boundaries and it awakens: the breath. Find a place so magical, that it steals: the breath. In the same breath (pun intended) if I wait and dwell on the moments that passed me by will I suffer? I have. If I stop and think on the possibilities that may become, do I create grandiose barriers? I might.

The breath only asks us for one thing and that’s to keep doing it. Breathe. Now, again. And again. You will get through it, you will get over this, you will get another chance. Just please, don’t stop me. I think this is the same for love, faith, overeating, and yoga. So I think this is the same for life. I think it means, don’t stop you. Well me. You know what I mean! The heart is the one reason the breath can recover so quickly. Hearts beat for the breath. For the times when the heart hurts or labors, the breath rushes to be by its side. Breathe to the beat. It keeps up by keeping up. They are best friends you see. BFF’s. Like PJ&J, peas and carrots, Patanjali and Krishnamacharya.
“When we are open and breathing deeply, we allow the flow of life force energy. Quite simply, we invite the best of who we are to guide us through the moments, days, and months that make up our lives. Breathing allows us access to all of the magical, powerful, creative parts of ourselves. That access makes for a beautiful, empowered, enriched life experience. Living the life of our dreams isn’t possible without allowing breath to flow in and out of our bodies, fully and regularly.”

Then walks in the mind and physical body, the committed couple. They are in a relationship: fooorrrrrr—eeeeehhh—vvvveerrrrrrr. And it doesn’t take much for one to piss the other off. Typical relationship right? Sometimes they can be in two totally different spots but still feel the same or vice versa. I think that everyday our ENTIRE body (physical/mental/spiritual) practices. The best friends play and the couple cuddles. Or the best friends fight and the couple is practicing the silent treatment. Whatever the scenario, both parties get over it. And move on.
The only difference is that in yoga class we are watching it closely. Because life is inhaling and exhaling, adjusting and second chances. I am reminded every time I fall (graceful or not), reach for a double bind, or open my heart to someone/thing that I care about.

Yoga has showed me that there is nothing to worry about. I do what feels right in the moment, and then I am given another… no matter what! The only way for me to appreciate that moment is to make the best of it. Fall down, say my cuss word (in my head or not) and get back up. Yes, I will go for it, here, out the door and anywhere else I go. When I think of how beautiful the opportunity is, I am humbled. So I ask, what keeps you from letting go?
